Google’s Panoramio: More Mashing in the 2.0 Era

Aug 11th, 2008 by Tahirih Lopez | 0

Panoramio.png

As I was re-editing my map of SUNY Potsdam I saw this new feature that allowed you to add in photos to the map, Panoramio

Panoramio by you.

This reminds me of Google’s attempt at Rivaling Yahoo’s Flickr with something called Picasa.  From the people I know, there are many more Flickr users than Picasa.  Now it seems as though Google is trying to find another image niche by banking on there well known Google Maps as the motivator for uploading and naming locations.  Google Maps has some outstanding visual features such as “Street View” and editing power that allows you to highlight areas with the ability to distinguish  color and transparency.

Picture 3.png by you.

So what’s next in the Mash-Up Web 2.0 world?  Perhaps a meshing of photo sites, kind of like a photo router.  That would help my predicament of whether to upload my photos to Picasa, Flickr, Facebook, MySpace, Panoramio, or another image site.  One thing I don’t have the patience and time for is uploading them all, one site at a time.  For now though, for my needs, Facebook will be my main personal photo album and Flickr a source of images.

There is much to do on-line: uploading images, checking e-mail, blogging with Wordpress, Facebook, YouTube, Rss Feeds, etc. I must thank all those associated with the Flock internet browser.  Most likely my next post will be an homage to Flock for simplifying my internet adventures.

Haha! The Legend of Zelda: A Link To Love

Jul 12th, 2008 by Tahirih Lopez | 0

Thanks to Facebook and Danny Ledonne (creator of video game Super Columbine Massacre RPG! and documentary Playing Columbine) the link SydLexia.com - The Legend of Zelda: A Link To Love was found!

Some of my favorites…

2. Learn To Play An Instrument [
Instrumentalists are incredibly sexy (in my opinion).]

“This one is so obvious that it probably shouldn’t even be on here. Girls love musicians, pure and simple. Hell, it doesn’t even matter what instrument you play; the drum makes ‘em cum, but even the clarinet gets ‘em wet. The necessity of learning to play an instrument is further reinforced by The Legend of Zelda series, as virtually every Zelda game has included a musical device. In Link To The Past, that instrument is a flute so magical that it looks like a mistranslated ocarina. This magical flute allows Link to summon a magical duck to magically transport him around the Light World. That’s a lot of fucking magic. However, it’s still not as magical as getting a full body massage from a girl just because you can play a little bit of “6th Avenue Heartache” on the guitar.” [especially Tango being played on a piano]

And this one was just so wrong (yet incredibly hilarious) on so many levels…

12. The Tip Should Shoot Stuff [I will never see the Master Sword in the same light @_@]

“Although Zelda appeals to gamers of both genders, it is primarily intended for men. If you examine the game mechanics, you can clearly see that Link was designed so that men could easily relate to him. Think about it. Like most men, Link’s main concern is to brandish his Master Sword. Like most men, he’ll stick it in just about anything. And like most men, Link knows that keeping his health up will enhance the performance of his Master Sword. When a man is in perfect health, he should be able to make stuff shoot out of his Master Sword without much effort. If he can’t, something is seriously wrong. If you should ever find yourself in a position where your Master Sword won’t shoot stuff when you want it to, do what Link does: consult a doctor. Or your spam folder. Or some weirdo in a robe.”

Judge orders user data from YouTube

This bit of information really shows how far we are from privacy.

“Google will have to turn over every record of every video watched by YouTube users, including users’ names and IP addresses, to Viacom, which is suing Google for allowing clips of its copyright videos to appear on YouTube, a judge ruled Wednesday.” (Judge Orders YouTube to Give All User Histories to Viacom | Threat Level from Wired.com)

Inspiron mini

Technology always astounds me. This a found out about through Slashdot | OEMs Looking to Ubuntu for Netbook Market.  It’s something Dell will be having with Ubuntu.

Dell posted more information on their blog about it: Something from Dell at D6. There is more info on Ars Techica: Hands on with the Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Another related piece of technology is the processor (Intel Atom) going into this netbook, Small wonder: inside Intel’s Silverthorne ultramobile CPU.
